Hollie was 13 when she went on our Type 1 Adventure “I would sum up Type 1 Events in three words: fantastic, enjoyable, happy.“
My favourite bit was making new friends and doing activities that I had not done before. There was lots of exciting activities and because everyone has diabetes I never felt left out. I learned that diabetes does not restrict me.“We all learned about insulin and sugar level controls and I learned to always change my needle every time I inject. Since the event I change my needle each time I use my insulin pen. I understand more about diabetes now.“It was a fantastic experience.”
Hollie’s mum, Renu, says“We heard about Diabetes UK’s events from Hollie’s diabetes nurse. He explained how Hollie could attend and all the activities she be involved in. He talked about previous events and the achievements of children who’d been on them.
“One of the great things about the events was the complete peace of mind when Hollie is there. Since coming back Hollie is much more aware of her insulin routine and understands the consequences if not managed well. We would send Hollie again and Hollie herself wants to take part again.“
