The Type 1 Diabetes Grand Challenge
The Type 1 Diabetes Grand Challenge is our pioneering partnership with the Steve Morgan Foundation and JDRF to transform the lives of people with type 1 diabetes. With an unprecedented £50 million investment from the Steve Morgan Foundation, the partnership is accelerating the development of new treatments and a cure.
The Banting Circle
The Banting Circle, chaired by Mike and Angie Rutherford, is a dedicated group of philanthropists that have joined forces in the fight against diabetes. Named in honour of one of the co-founders of insulin, Sir Frederick Banting, the Banting Circle and its members pledge their support each year to make sure ground-breaking research can continue, vital support is available and cutting-edge care is delivered to those affected by diabetes.
“We’re honoured to chair Diabetes UK’s exclusive giving club, the Banting Circle. Our son Harry was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in 1999, at the age of 12. It was a scary time for us all, and we learned that the severity of this lifelong condition is often underestimated. We have seen tremendous advances in diabetes care since then, but we want to see more, so we are supporting Diabetes UK as they strive for further improvements. By making research breakthroughs, educating healthcare providers, and continuing to raise awareness in society, we know we can make a difference to more people.”
