Working together to reduce stigma in diabetes, help healthcare professionals better support people living with diabetes, and walk for a happier, healthier future
Continuous Professional Development platform
Abbott are continuing their support of our Continuous Professional Development (CPD) platform for healthcare professionals. The platform offers a series of online courses, accredited by the Royal College of Nursing, aimed at giving healthcare professionals the confidence, skills and resources to better support people living with diabetes.Â
Since launching our platform in June 2021, Abbott have supported its development, enabling us to launch modules such as Emotional Wellbeing, Understanding Diabetes, Type 2 Diabetes Remission and Diabetes Technology. We’re continuing to grow the platform with new modules on Diabetes Complications and Type 2 Prevention, and more coming up in the pipeline.
We’re really grateful to Abbott for their support of this vital work, helping healthcare professionals to provide better diabetes care.

Wellness Walks Headline Sponsorship Â
We’re delighted that Abbott’s FreeStyle brand is joining us for a happier, healthier future as Headline Sponsors of our Glasgow, Birmingham and London Bridges Wellness Walk events for 2024.Â
FreeStyle are on board this year to help us grow our Wellness Walk events to reach more people living with or at risk of diabetes. We’re excited to have them as a part of our walks again this year, and look forward to seeing them on the start line!

Stigma market researchÂ
In 2023, Abbott supported our market research exploring the prevalence, experiences and impact of stigmatising attitudes, language and behaviour on those living with diabetes. Through this research, we identified that there were higher levels of stigma among South Asian, Black British and Caribbean communities.
This year, we’re diving deeper to fully understand the role ethnicity plays in diabetes stigma, working closely with people with lived experience. We want to halve the number of people experiencing diabetes stigma and discrimination over the next ten years, and Abbott’s support of our market research is a vital part of this.
Â
Tackling Inequalities CommissionÂ
Last year, Abbott supported our first ever Tackling Inequality Commission which brought together an expert panel to determine the biggest challenges for people with diabetes facing health inequality. The findings from the commission are helping us take the steps we need to support people living with diabetes in areas of deprivation, ensuring that everyone can live in a world where diabetes does no harm. Abbott provided funding, but they had no involvement or influence over the commission.
Diabetes UK Professional Conference
We were delighted to have Abbott’s continued support of our Diabetes UK Professional Conference for April 2024 as Gold Sponsors.
