To mark World Diabetes Day 2023, members of the South East Coast and London team were in Waltham Forest to host a ‘Living with Diabetes Day’ awareness event at Leyton Orient Football Club.
The day featured talks and workshops led by local healthcare professionals on a range of topics – from footcare to food – to support people to learn more about their type 2 diabetes, and how our work and local services can support them too. There were also stalls held by local organisations such as the Waltham Forest Talking Therapies service, local social prescribers, and our ongoing partner the Leyton Orient Trust.
More than 50 people came along on the day and of the 43 people who responded to our feedback form, 90% agreed that they understood more about their diabetes because of the Living with Diabetes Day. Further, most people responded positively when asked how likely they were to recommend a Living with Diabetes Day to someone else and 90% said that the Living with Diabetes Day was either ‘Much better’ (67%) or ‘A bit better’ (23%) than they expected.
“I so enjoyed today’s course. So interesting. The speakers were so helpful and full of useful information. Today was very beneficial. Thank you!” - Attendee Feedback
Overall, the day was a great success, as shown by the video shot on the day:
