Our Type 1 Events are a unique experience for children and young people living with type 1 diabetes and their families. The events provide the time and space to build confidence managing type 1 - in a fun and safe environment. And the opportunity to share experiences with people who know exactly what life with type 1 is like.

“At every event I learn something new. I think that this would be the case for all healthcare professionals, however experienced in the field of diabetes. Working in a clinical setting is a different experience to a Type 1 Event. Volunteering can really open your eyes to some unexpected issues.”

Who are we looking for?
Paediatric or adult diabetes specialist nurses
Qualified PDSN/DSN volunteers are needed to provide specialist knowledge, assist with insulin dose adjustment, carbohydrate counting and treating hypos. You must have sound knowledge of pump therapy, Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) and Flash. Your role on the event will be to provide diabetes care for individual children on the weekend when they are away from their parents.

Dietitians
Qualified dietitian volunteers are needed to assist with carbohydrate counting, treating hypos and ensuring any dietary requirements are met. You will be expected to oversee and provide expert advice on the nutritional management of children with type 1 diabetes.

Doctors
Diabetologists, consultants, registrars and GPs with a special interest in diabetes are needed to provide specialist knowledge, to help ensure the safe running of our events, including insulin dose adjustment. You'll also be the first point of call for any medical issues, both diabetes and non-diabetes related.

Psychologists
Qualified psychologist volunteers are needed to facilitate group discussions with children with type 1, their siblings and parents. This is in order to promote coping strategies and improve mental and emotional wellbeing.
