The East Kent Federation of Clinical Commissioning Groups is made up of 4 CCG’s: NHS Ashford CCG, NHS Canterbury and Coastal CCG, NHS South Kent Coast CCG and NHS Thanet CCG. The CCGs are developing a radical service change by commissioning a fully integrated care pathway for people with diabetes.
New service model for diabetes patients
Diabetes UK worked with the four CCGs to help ensure that user views are included within the commissioning process for the new pathway. Our partnership work built on the work already carried out by the Federation to involve users in the development of a new service model. We focused our work on Thanet CCG, where we held a user event, carried out meetings at different GP surgeries and telephone interviews with patients to obtain a cross-section of views. This approach is now being rolled out to the remaining three CCGs.
