GP with a specialist interest in diabetes, Leeds Community Healthcare NHS Trust
Elizabeth is a GP at an inner-city practice in Leeds and has been a GPWSI in Diabetes with the Leeds Community Diabetes Service (LCDS) since its beginning seven years ago.
She has worked as a Clinical Assistant in the Diabetes Department at St James Teaching Hospital for 10 years – the last four of those being with the MDT Foot Clinic (FC).
Since joining the LCDS she has helped Primary Care Colleagues provide good care for their patients via in-house education sessions and by presenting at locality update meetings.
Her experience at the FC has fired her enthusiasm in these often neglected areas of care and she has been involved in organising education for practice staff by arranging for podiatry colleagues and vascular surgeons to share their expertise.
Alongside a DSN colleague Elizabeth has produced a formulary for the service and has been part of the clinical team who collaborated with Community Pharmacists in Medicine Management to update Guidelines for management of Type 2 Diabetes in Leeds.
Her aim as Clinical Champion is to continue to provide a continuing education resource for Primary Care which will empower and enthuse her colleagues.
