FORWARD - Type 1 diabetes stem cell infusion research study

Researchers are working with a sponsor to study if an investigational islet cell infusion is safe and effective for providing replacement cells for the ones that have been lost or do not work properly in people living with type 1 diabetes. Participants must meet certain requirements to be eligible.

Eligible Participants Must:

  • Be 18 to 65 years of age.
  • Have been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes.
  • Have documented severe low blood sugar (hypoglycaemia) and impaired hypoglycaemic awareness.

This clinical research study will involve:

  • A screening visit up to 60 days before the infusion.
  • A procedure to infuse an investigational treatment consisting of human stem cell-derived pancreas islets. These islets are made up of cells that replace those lost as a result of type 1 diabetes.
  • A follow-up period of five years following the infusion.

If you would like to learn more about the research study, please discuss your interest with your doctor. Contact details for research team: cellT1D@kcl.ac.uk, Dr Sufyan Hussain.
