Prevention in prediabetic patients of infection’s morbidity following a high fiber and vegetal protein diet: PreVegDiet Study

Researchers at the University of Roehampton would like to recruit people aged 18-65 years, with prediabetes (HbA1c between 39-46mmol/mol) and without prediabetes, to participate in a study that aims to investigate the effects of seaweed extracts and a Mediterranean diet on health and blood sugar levels.

The study has three arms:

  • Seaweed extract supplement - two capsules per day
  • Harmless placebo - two capsules per day
  • Following the Eatwell Guide

Participants will be randomly assigned one of the arms for 12 weeks, followed by a four-week period where treatment will be gradually stopped. During the course of the study there will be four short visits to the University of Roehampton, at the start of the study, week 6, week 12, and week 16, each lasting a maximum of one hour.

Participants will be asked to give blood, stool, saliva, and urine samples, as well as having body measurements taken and completing questionnaires to assess bowel movements and diet.

At the completion of the study, participants will receive a £100 Amazon voucher and will also be able to request results.
