Researchers at NHS sites across the UK would like to recruit people over the age of 18 with type 2 diabetes, who are treated with background insulin, and SLGT inhibitors or GLP-1 agonists or both. They hope to understand the impact of real-time glucose monitoring using the FreeStyle Libre 3 system on blood sugar management compared to self-monitoring blood glucose testing in people with type 2 diabetes.
Taking part will involve using a FreeStyle Libre 3 or continuing with your current glucose monitoring method for 8 months. You’ll have reviews with a diabetes specialist in-person or remotely once a month. At the beginning, in the middle, and at the end of the study, you’ll also be asked to take blood tests, wear an activity tracker, and complete questionnaires about your experience.
You’ll be reimbursed for time and any reasonable travel costs associated with attending study visits. If allocated to continue with your current glucose monitoring method, you’ll be offered an optional 4-month period of FreeStyle Libre 3 use after 8 months and continue to have diabetes specialist support during this time.
