Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation For The Treatment Of Diabetic Neuropathy: A Multicentre, Double-blind, Pilot, Randomised, Sham-controlled Trial (NMES-DN)

Researchers at Imperial College London would like to recruit people aged 18 or over with diabetic neuropathy (nerve damage in the feet and legs) to take part in a study exploring if electrical stimulation can improve neuropathy symptoms.

Taking part will involve an initial visit for blood tests, a nerve conduction study, physical exam and a questionnaire. You'll then receive a study device in addition to standard of care for 3 months. You'll be given guidance to use your device for two 30-minute sessions per day, a minimum of five hours per week for 3 months. The research team will get in touch at 3 weeks, 6 weeks and 9 weeks to check on your experience via phone call, and you'll be invited back to the clinic for nerve tests and questionnaires at 3 months and 6 months.

The study is being run at Charing Cross Hospital in London and Basildon University Hospital in Essex. You'll be reimbursed for your travels and you may choose to keep the device for free at the end of the study. For more information please contact Sasha Smith (Clinical Trial Manager) via neuropathy@imperial.ac.uk
