On Saturday, 8 May 2016 an intrepid band of walkers from several Lions Clubs set out from Eastbourne on an epic journey to walk the 106.5 mile long South Downs Way as part of the Lions Centennial Challenge. This challenge asks Lions around the UK to hold their own walks and record their miles, with the aim of jointly walking 100,000 miles to raise awareness of diabetes and to raise some much needed funds for Diabetes UK.Â
Lion Club member and event organiser Chris Hibbert said ‘The whole experience was fantastic from start to finish. Walking and talking with friends old and new from different clubs and different districts.’ The team of 33 walkers (and two dogs) raised a fantastic £6,000 for Diabetes UK. A huge congratulations to Chris and the team, we look forward to working with you and Lions UK wide to help you achieve your 100,000 mile target.
