Over the years, she has seen phenomenal changes, not only in the treatment of diabetes, but also in society's changing attitudes towards the condition.
In this audio slideshow, Bridget talks about growing up with diabetes in the 1950s and 1960s; life with diabetes at school and as a teenager; and how her father, who also had Type 1 diabetes, guided her with his own advice and experience of diabetes.
In her recollection, Bridget talks about pregnancy in the 1980s, a prolonged stay in hospital before the birth of her daughter and reflects on how living with diabetes has changed then and now.
