Diabetes UK Northern Ireland has numerous groups all over Northern Ireland who help provide support, information and a chance to talk for anyone interested in diabetes. The Strabane Diabetes UK Support Group will be meeting on Wednesday 5 February at 8.00pm at the Fir Trees Hotel and you are invited to come along to find out more about diabetes and meet with other people who are also living with the condition.
Diabetes UK Volunteer Support Officer, Olivia Bartlett, said, "The Strabane Support Group will be welcoming Dr David Chaney from Diabetes UK as their guest speaker, who will be updating us about the charity’s exciting plans for 2020. Dr Chaney is tasked with managing Local Impact across the UK for the charity so will share the latest developments in diabetes care, research and activities and how we can all play a part in helping our diabetes family locally."
Diabetes is a serious condition where the blood glucose level becomes too high. If not managed well, both type 1 and type 2 diabetes can lead to devastating complications. Diabetes is one of the leading causes of preventable sight loss in people of working age in the UK and is a major cause of lower limb amputation, kidney failure and stroke.
Olivia continued, ‘If you are in the Strabane area then why not start the New Year off by joining your local group? We look forward to seeing you on Wednesday 5 February, please feel free to bring a friend as we would love to see new members and all will be made very welcome.’
