Harry Irvine has been organising the annual Donkey Derby for 14 years and the event continues to grow year on year, growing in popularity and supported by the local community. This year was no different with hundreds of people attending the Donkey Derby on Saturday 2 September, enjoying local stalls, children’s activities and a vintage display.

Belfast man, Johnny Flynn, wants to celebrate this year’s World Diabetes Day on 14 November with a walk to remember at Colin Glen’s Gruffalo Trail. The event will start from 9.45am to include the walk and a presentation at the Education Centre where refreshments will be supplied.

Johnny, (pictured) a Sports Development Officer at Colin Glen Trust, is inviting local families to join him on the Gruffalo Trail and help raise awareness about diabetes.

A young woman from Belfast has launched a new online group for 18-30 year olds who are living with Type 1 diabetes. Jessica Anderson started the group for the greater Belfast area, with the support of local charity, Diabetes UK Northern Ireland.

Jessica, aged 27, explained: “I have been living with Type 1 diabetes since I was 14 years old. While there is no good time to be diagnosed, it was pretty awful during my teen years when I felt like I already had enough to deal with.

Diabetes UK has launched its latest Putting Feet First campaign focused on helping people with diabetes look after their feet and highlight that unhealed ulcers are a leading cause of amputations.

More than a third of people in the UK are not aware that foot ulcers are a serious complication of diabetes, despite being a leading cause of diabetes-related amputations, a new survey commissioned by Diabetes UK has revealed.
