Neurodivergence and diabetes: What is it, who does it affect and how can i help?
Autism diagnoses have risen by 787% in the past two decades, and prescriptions for ADHD medication have jumped by 800%. This increase is likely to continue as diagnostic criteria become more inclusive and awareness grows. Emerging evidence suggests that rates of neurodivergence may be higher in people living with diabetes, and that the combination of neurodivergence and diabetes management can create significant difficulties for some people. This psychology led workshop aims to introduce diabetes staff to the basics of neurodivergence, provide training on how to best support neurodivergent individuals with diabetes and introduce resources to aid clinical care. The workshop will also see the official launch of new online resources for neurodivergent people living with type 1 diabetes.
