Challenges in tackling type 2 diabetes in children and young adults: Treatment options, stigma and psychological impact
Type 2 diabetes is increasingly recognised as a significant health concern in children and young people, as well as an increasing challenge to health systems in the UK and globally. Tackling the growing burden of type 2 diabetes in young people requires a multifaceted, multidisciplinary approach, including a focus on lifestyle interventions such as diet, exercise, and weight management, as well ensuring the healthcare team is composed of the right balance of individuals to empower young people to engage with and manage their type 2 diabetes. This session will explore the roles of diabetes specialist nurses, dietitians and psychologists in supporting young people living with type 2 diabetes.
