On Saturday 3 September, the Dungannon Support Group will be hosting their Walk for Diabetes in Dungannon Park from 11am.
This will be the first Walk for Diabetes the group has been able to host since the start of the pandemic. They're looking forward to getting lots of support from the local community.
Rhonda Green, secretary at the Dungannon Diabetes UK Support Group, said, ‘Every year we really enjoyed our Walk for Diabetes and obviously had to stop doing them during Covid, so we are excited to get everyone involved again and we are hoping for the best turnout yet.
‘It is a chance to get moving again, at a pace that suits you, but it is also really important to connect with people and get that local support. More than ever, we are needing that support and information to help the many families living with diabetes, so please join us on 3 September for a great event.’
Diabetes is a lifelong, relentless condition and there are over 108,000 people living with diabetes in Northern Ireland. Approximately 90% of those living with diabetes have type 2 diabetes.
Diabetes UK Northern Ireland National Fundraiser, Naomi Breen said, ‘It is great to see these community events starting to pick back up so that we can reach more people who are living with this relentless condition. A huge thank you to the Dungannon group for organising their Walk for Diabetes and for helping to raise awareness and funds for families in Northern Ireland. Come along for a lovely walk in Dungannon Park and bring the whole family!’
The Dungannon Walk for Diabetes is approximately 1.2 miles long and a great opportunity to meet others in the local area. The registration fee is £10 per person and children go free. Refreshments will be provided and all donations will go towards funding diabetes research in Northern Ireland.
