Last year, Johnson & Johnson’s Animas Corporation announced its plans to transition all patients globally to another insulin delivery system. The decision followed the news that the company would exit the insulin pump business and discontinue the manufacturing and sale of Animas Vibe insulin pumps.
In response to the news that Animas would cease to sell in the european market by September 2019, the company stated that they would continue to provide customer service and warranty support, including providing pump supplies that are used with the Animas Vibe insulin pumps, through a transition period.
Last week, the company company wrote to Trusts and Health boards in the UK to offer support to healthcare providers to assist with transitioning patients to alternative insulin delivery systems.
If you’re currently using an Animas pump and pump supplies, here is what the company has communicated and is currently offering to patients and healthcare providers:
- A warranty refund program for any pump warranties that expires on 1 October 2019 or later. This means that Animas will purchase back the remaining time of warranty in order for your healthcare provider to be able to purchase an alternative pump for you, with the refund payment being made to your NHS Trust or Health Board.
- A training program to support the additional resources that will be required by the clinical teams in charge with diabetes care to safely transition patients to an alternative insulin delivery system.
