We're working collaboratively with healthcare professionals and people living with diabetes in Leeds to develop a resource which we hope will improve the care available for people using insulin to manage their diabetes.
The project is in response to feedback received from people living with diabetes in the North of England, who use insulin to manage their condition. It has been driven with the help and support of the NHS Leeds Diabetes Partnership and local GP, Dr Ian McDermott, who are eager to ensure that the right support, information and education is available to people using insulin therapy to manage their diabetes.
A small project group which includes people living with diabetes, healthcare professionals and Diabetes UK staff, have produced a draft resource with the aim of helping people who use insulin keep safe and well.
‘Diabetes and Insulin: The Essentials’ sets out the care and support everyone using insulin to manage their condition should expect, whether they are new to insulin or have been using it for a while. As well as providing vital information for people living with diabetes, this new resource can also support healthcare professionals, to help improve the consistency and quality of care everyone using insulin receives.
The resource is available as both a printable booklet (PDF, 3.2KB) and a web resource (PDF, 2.6KB), so that it can be printed and given to people during appointments, or sent remotely via the messaging systems used by healthcare professionals in Leeds.
We are now looking for feedback on this draft resource, from people living with diabetes who are starting or using insulin, as well as healthcare professionals.
If you would like to provide any feedback on the draft ‘Insulin Essentials’ or how they can be used to improve care we would love to hear from you. Please email your thoughts to: rachel.martin@diabetes.org.uk.
