The efforts of eleven of our fantastic volunteers were commended at this year's event.
The London team recently invited some of our wonderful volunteers to its Inspire Awards ceremony.
The event was held on Zoom and brought together people from across the capital to share their experience of helping Diabetes UK and to receive our thanks for their efforts.
Eight winners were honoured and two long service awards were also given out. CEO Chris Askew sent a video message to and Andy Broomhead, Head of Volunteering, attended the event.
Members of the London team took turns to read out short descriptions of the attendees and their work for us and each winner then said a few words.
Roz Rosenblatt, Head of London, said:
“It was inspiring to see and hear from our volunteers and hear about their efforts over the past year.”
Jaime Ocampo, winner of the Fundraising award, said:
"I am extremely grateful to be receiving this award. It makes me very proud because of what it means to me personally. I’ve already started thinking about ways we can raise more funds this year.”
Jaime, whose father was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in his 20s, has been promoting diabetes awareness and fundraising throughout his academic and professional career. He became a volunteer for Diabetes UK in 2019 after moving from New York to London, and as his first project with Diabetes UK he approached his workplace about fundraising and awareness raising opportunities.
Employees at SBIA raised more than £6,000 following a charity lunch initiative, with support from the firm’s charitable matched giving scheme. Staff from Diabetes UK were also on hand to offer Diabetes ‘Know Your Risk’ assessments and educate employees across the organisation.
