Our Diabetes Tech Can’t Wait campaign in Scotland made it to the final four charities in the running for Campaign of the Year in this year’s prestigious Scottish Charity Awards. This is no mean feat, given the record number of nominations received for the 2024 celebration of the best of the third sector.
Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations (SCVO) announced the 11 winners of the Scottish Charity Awards 2024 at a celebratory awards ceremony, hosted by Sally Magnusson on Thursday 20 June at the Radisson Blu, Glasgow.
Run annually by the SCVO, the Scottish Charity Awards celebrates the best of the voluntary sector and this year’s shortlist included 39 individuals and organisations from charities, social enterprises and voluntary groups across the country.
We were nominated in the Campaign of the Year category for the Diabetes Tech Can’t Wait campaign that we launched in Scotland in March 2023 because we recognised that too many people in Scotland are unable to access diabetes technology that people tell us is life changing.
Unfortunately, we didn't win this time, but we are honoured to be one of only four finalists in this category, selected from a record 100 organisations going for Campaign of the Year. This is an incredible achievement.
More than 300 guests heard about our work and Scottish Government Minister for Equalities Kaukab Stewart MSP commended the contribution of everyone in the third sector on their work to tackle inequality. It was an inspiring and emotional night.
Special thanks to our passionate campaigners Lesley, Paul and Sheila who represented the Tech Collective on the night. And of course, thank you to everyone who has supported the campaign up to this point and helped secure £8.8 million in new funding for diabetes tech in Scotland.
We know that there is still much to do, but we should all be proud of the huge leap forward we have made for people living with diabetes.
