The Midlands and East team, supported by the Diabetes UK conference team, are delivering their 11th Diabetes in Pregnancy UK Conference on Tuesday 15 November.
Peter Shorrick, Head of Diabetes UK Midlands and East said: “This is now the single largest specialist diabetes in pregnancy conference in Europe and the programme has been designed around all the hot topics and latest research for healthcare professionals working across different disciplines but with an interest in the field. We are looking forward to an insightful informative day.”
The event moved online in 2020, continuing to grow in numbers since the last in-person conference in Bristol in 2019, with 470 healthcare professionals in attendance. Last year over 700 healthcare professionals joined, and over 14,000 pregnant women with diabetes were supported by those who attended with their respective teams.
One of the highlights of the conference this year is the presentation by Professor Roy Taylor, Professor of Medicine and Metabolism at Newcastle on “Type 2 diabetes remission - lessons for gestational diabetes.”
Professor Taylor’s research with Professor Mike Lean at the University of Glasgow, funded by Diabetes UK, has been a game-changer, showing type 2 diabetes remission is possible for some people through a weight-management programme (DIRECT). There will be practical dietary advice for gestational diabetes patients.
Dr Shivani Misra is chairing the multidisciplinary team interactive session on "Type 2 diabetes: Early onset type 2 diabetes and implications for pregnancy."
Lesley Bennett and Ruth Harding, Diabetes Specialist Midwives, will offer practical suggestions for managing the increasing number of women with gestational diabetes.
If you're a healthcare professional register for the conference today.
