Healthy cooking

Many people think they can't have their favourite foods anymore once they’'re diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. Remember – no food is forbidden and you don't have to cut out sugary and fatty foods completely.

You can still have good blood glucose control when you eat sugar and foods containing sugar - but you must limit your intake as part of a healthy diet, that goes for everyone, diabetes or no diabetes. Too many sugary foods such as sweets, chocolate, sweet drinks, cakes, biscuits and desserts can cause problems with tooth decay and weight control.

If the overall balance of your diet is OK, you perhaps don't need to think about cooking more healthily. But if you or your dietitian think changes could help you, have a look at how you can make your meals more healthy.
